The changes to the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) for Australia has caused some panic for people who had intended on migrating to Australia through the General Skilled MIgration program, however, whose occupations are no longer on the SOL.
Although it may seem that all is lost, this is not always the case. It is worthwhile for you to look into the Employer Sponsored Migration scheme for Australia, if you feel you have run out of options.
The good news is, the Employer Sponsored Migration scheme has not been affected by the changes to the SOL. In fact, Since the announcement of future changes to Australian migration on February 18, 2010, Employer Sponsored visas are being prioritised so that these types of visas can be rushed through.
This is of benefit to both the employer who is sponsoring, as well as the overseas national. The Australian employer can now fill their vacancy faster, and the overseas national can migrate to Australia sooner.
If you want to find out whether you qualify for job sponsorship in Australia, we recommend that you review the ENSOL list - Employer Nominated Skilled Occupation List - to ensure that your profession is listed, and that you do indeed qualify.
The next step would be to confirm that you qualify through a Professional Australian Migration Assessment, whereby a Registered Migration Agent can assist you on your next steps.
If you would rather do your own research and apply without the use of a migration professional, we suggest you review the ENSOL, determine who the authorised assessing body for your occupation is, and visit their website for further research on how to qualify for this occupation, and what you need to do for your assessment.
Once you have completed your assessment, and you have received a positive result, ie you are eligible for applying for sponsored jobs in Australia under your profession; you are now ready to start applying for sponsored jobs in Australia.
You can apply for jobs through the usual job search channels (ie Australian job boards and news papers), and/or through the hidden job market in Australia.
