Hang Seng Index down 1.08% on MonPublished: 14 Sep 2009 01:15:06 PST

Sep. 14, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Hong Kong stocks fell on Monday. The Hang Seng Index, the benchmark, opened 319 points lower at 20,841. After touching the intraday low of 20,821.59 points, the blue-chip Hang Seng Index fell 229.22 points or 1.08% to close at 20,932.2.

Mainboard turnover rose to HK$50.87 billion.

The Hang Seng China Enterprise Index, which tracks the overall performance of 43 Chinese mainland state-owned enterprises on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, slid 111.12 points or 0.91% to 12,157.09 points.

Market heavyweight HSBC Holdings Plc<0005><HBC>, which accounts for the largest weighting for the Hang Seng Index, decreased 0.89% to HK$83.85.

Gold stocks ended mixed. Zijin Mining Group Co Ltd<601899><2899> decreased 1.04% to HK$7.59. Zhaojin Mining Industry Co Ltd<1818> fell 0.7% to HK$14.14. Lingbao Gold Co Ltd<3330> rose 1.58% to HK$3.21. Sino Gold Mining Ltd<1862> swelled 0.21% to HK$47.3.

Auto stocks also ended mixed. Denway Motors Ltd<0203> fell 2.77% to HK$3.51. Great Wall Motor Co Ltd<2333> fell 4.18% to HK$6.87. Dongfeng Motor Group Co Ltd<0489> decreased 2.99% to HK$8.11. Sinotruk (Hong Kong) Ltd<3808> decreased 2.09% to HK$9.38. BYD Co Ltd<1211> swelled 5.43% to HK$62.1.
