Hey Roy,

Finding the job seems to be a common problem for people wanting to migrate to Australia.  Do you require sponsorship?  What is your work background?

I'm not sure whether you've already had your CV assessed - if not, click here now.  It's good to get an indication of how competitive your current CV is against Australian residents so you can find out how to improve your position.

The free eGuide - Mission: Find a Job in Australia, with its free Job Search Strategy should help you to work on your job search strategy and open up opportunities, rather than just searching on the job search websites.  Tapping into the hidden job market in Australia is key!

If you have any specific questions about your job search, please feel free to ask.

Kind regards,

I have been a bricklayer on a two year 457 sponsorship visa in Oz. I have been a bricklayer for the past ten years, I am classed as multi skilled from tileing to concrete, to window installation etc. The problem seems to be companies bring trades in on a sub contract basis and other companies that take you on sponsorships are very hard to find. The company we were with after two years of employment broke the immigration laws two weeks prior to our permanent residency being granted, they got a slap on the wrist and we was told we had to leave the country within 28 days. How is that for a fair go.. especially when you have  a fully furnished home car on finance and you have over 12 members of family who live there. During our time we have had three medicals $300 dollars a pop each and two applications $2000 each non refundable and now we are presently trying to find a sponsor before we lose everything. We think its diabolical and totally unfair to two hardworking people, who were told we qualify for every application we applied for. We love Australia but it seems like a cash cow for the immigration. We are deeply hurt.

Hi Nadine.

I am Ricky. I am a resident of India

I have 2 years of experience as credit risk analyst in RISK MANAGEMENT division of one of the top financial giants with one of its offices in India

My core job is to make credit risk models for probability of default , exposure at default etc. along with model monitoring, validations etc.

I have exposure to tools like SAS and SQL

I recently have come across a lot of RISK Management jobs across sites like seek , efinancial careers etc. where the job requirements suit my profile 100%

I am looking for sponsorship

I have applied to 8-10 companies in last 2-3 days and hope i get some favorable response atleast.

In the meanwhile I came across ur wonderful site , so wanted to know how can i further enhance my chances

I really want to be in Australia with a job in hand and that too in the next 6 months

Its been a childhood dream to work in this wonderful country . I hope you would help me achieve this dream

I am also mailing a copy of my cover letter and Resume to you for your reference at nadine@nabthatjob.com

Hello,

my situation is the following:

I was studying in Australia in 2008-2009 for a Masters degree in theUniversity of Sydney. I really wanted to stay after I finished my studies to live and work in Australia because I liked the country and  I saw more perspectives there. However I ve discovered that I can't stay because

1. the requirement for graduate visa or permanent visa is 2 years of study whereas majority of Masters programms in Australia are 1 year.

2. Even though my work experience could have been qualifyed and pass the basic requirements my occupation though gives only 50 pt so I lack 10pt to apply

Therefore my only option is a sponsored visa. Desperately trying to find that job in Australia till my student visa expired I had to leave the country leaving my partner, my stuff and everything behind. I ve made a lot of research on immigration laws, job market etc. I qualify for a sponsored visa but all I need is to find a job, but I don't know how to approach employers. There is no use to bear costs of an overseas eployee's visa arrangements if you can employ a person with visa/citizenship.

In addition I would like to mention that the industry I am working in is quite tricky and narrow. I am a policy analyst/ international realtions analyst and the ideal job for me would be a research position at the think-tank organisation/university or in the mass media where they need an expert on foreign politics.

To sum up my road blocks are the SOL which gives the favor only to certain occupations and that much talked-about 'hidden job market'.

Best regards,

Agatha.

Hi Agatha,

I am really sorry to hear about your sitatuation, and I understand how difficult it must be having to leave like that.  Sometimes I feel it is unfair that we can't all just live where we choose to without difficulty - wouldn't that be nice?

Unfortunately, not the case though.  I appreciate your honesty and providing the details of your situation.  Although having such a tight niche can be viewed as a negative thing, it can also be seen as positive (cup half full), because you have something to offer than not many people in the world can offer, so if there is a role out there, you will be in demand.

The changes announced on February 8th no doubt futher confirm that your only option is to find a job sponsor.

How have you been approaching employers up until now?  Have you applied to many employers directly?  Are you open to relocating, or only looking in one region of Australia?  Considering more than one region will further open opportunities for you.

What about New Zealand?  Would New Zealand be an option?  Not sure if you have heard about the new Silver Fern Visa that will be launched in April 2010, opening opportunities for skilled foreign nationals to move to New Zealand to work.  Click here for more information.

If you would like me to see whether I can assist you further, why don't you email your CV to me by clicking here.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Nadine

Hello Nadine!

I will certainly take into account your advices. And the information about New Zeland is really exiting, seems like a possibility although I have never been in NZ. I ve started to directly approach employers following advises from your website and books. I am also subscribed for the weekly job alert provided for graduates in my field by the university but majority of vacancies there are for citizens only.

So I m just doing what I can and hoping that I get lucky but honestly it doesn't seem real. I personally know a lot of people in Australia -international students, immigrants, overseas professionals but I don't know ANYONE who has got an employer sponsored visa.

So the question is whether this option is real. Even statistically - how many people do get this type of visa and in what nishes do they work? Healthcare professionals, builders, engineers? or office jobs? So far it seems like majority of immigrants arrive on the idepended skilled visa. Am I wrong?

Regards,

Agatha.

Hi Agatha, Yes, in the past, the majority of immigrants to Australia have arrived on a skilled visa rather than sponsorship. However, now that skilled visas are restricted and immigration is opening up for employee sponsorship by Australian regions and companies, we will start to see a shift in ratios.

I am not saying it will be easy to find a sponsor, I am just saying that Australian employers will be more open to sponsoring overseas nationals as it will become a necessity.

Finding an employer sponsor is a matter of getting yourself in front of the right people, and staying in front of them.  Working on expanding your networks and developing your relationships within them.

I do hope that I will be able to assist you to find an employer sponsor and will do all I can in my power to assist you.

I have assessed your CV and sent an email through to you with a few questions for you.

Kind regards,

Nadine

Hi Nadine,

I have managed to find a job and secure a 457 sponsorship and will be arriving in Perth on the 1st of May.  The Australian CV was the first point of communication and opened the door :)  It was money worth well for me to purchase the self help guide with the templates, I am blown away by the responses I have had since converting my CV in this very professional format.

I would also like to thank you for the advice and info on your site as it helped me immensely :)

Kind Regards,
